Knock, knock, why a project should not go live?

Time for a bad PM joke –

Why a project should not go live?

If you are a PM in an organisation where only 10% of projects go live on time then the worst thing you can do for your career in that organisation is to deliver projects and have a reputation as someone who gets 90 to 100% of projects live on time. As this makes the managers look foolish as how is the whole organisation not delivering projects on time 90 or 100% of the time!

The punch line is that neither the organisation or you are right for each other 😊

Seriously, this links into what is the culture of an organisation and your personal culture as a PM. If an organisation is happy to not to go live with 90% of their projects on time but you as an individual want to go live on time then the organisation is not right for you and you are not right for the organisation.

It is unlikely that a PM on their own can change a company´s culture, culture is normally set from the CEO on down. As it is a risk for someone to stick their head up and try and do something different to the rest of the organisation.

Hopefully before you join an organisation you are able to find out something of the culture of the place so to determine if it is right for you and if you are right for them.
