What is the hurry…

One sentence that can tell you a lot about the culture of an implementation department is if you ever hear or see the following-

What is the hurry to deliver this project…

Another way of interpreting this phase is “what is the hurry to add value to our clients…” or “what is the hurry to make money for ourselves and shareholders…”

Delivery focused organisations should want to deliver all projects quickly (as per the contracted standards). Mainly because this is how they add value to client and to be blunt this is how the organisation makes money.

So, if there is a culture of “we will go live whenever we feel like it” or “we will find any excuse to not go live” then that organisation is in trouble. Not only financially, as they will lose clients as clients want to go live quickly so that they can start to receive the benefits of the contracted service or product. But also, the delivery focused employees will leave. As delivery focused employees will feel that it is not a place where they fit in or where they can grow and have a career. Finally, with this culture it may also be that the organisation may not be around for much longer.

So for any leaders of implementation divisions, if you see or hear this phrase “What is the hurry to deliver this project…” then it is imperative that you change this part of your division’s culture.
